Executive Summary

In recent years, artificial intelligence (AI) has advanced rapidly and is now widely used across various sectors of the global economy and in people's daily lives. In government agencies, AI is increasingly adopted for operations in parliaments, governments, courts, and local authorities in many countries. Vietnam is no exception, as AI is being developed and applied in numerous fields and industries. However, within government agencies, information on AI applications in their activities remains limited and preliminary. In this context, in 2024, the Institute for Policy Studies and Media Development (IPS), in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Vietnam, conducted a report titled “A Quick Review of Artificial Intelligence Applications in Government Agencies in Vietnam: Policy Recommendations.” Primarily through over 30 interviews with representatives from central and local government agencies, some businesses, AI experts, as well as research materials and official reports, the research team assessed the strategic direction context, the current status of applying AI-based digital technology products in government agencies in Vietnam, and provided relevant policy recommendations.
